Description Information
[50; 91] ff., 122:85 mm., usual light age, use and damp staining, corners rounded, ink on paper, neat Yemenite block letters signed several times and dated, bound in contemporary leather boards with ties, rubbed.
Kosher laws pretaining to slaugter and examination of animals following Yemenite customs. The directory was written to provide exact information for shohtim in the villages and to stimulate Torah study by R. Salah (1715-1805), chief rabbi of Sana, Yemen. This is preceeded by 50 ff of customs, liturgies, kabbalah, and other collected writings pretaining to kosher slaughter.

For hundreds of years the Yemenite Jewish communities followed their traditional ways of secular and religious life, not being influenced by external trends and currents. Some customs in the Yemenite prayer rites go back to the prayer book of R. Saadiah Ga'on. From the 16th century on the Kabbalah and especially later its Lurianic school and system found its way to Yemen and influenced Jewish literary production in the areas of commentaries to the Bible, prayers, and liturgic poetry. All of this rich history is reflected in this work.
