Unpublished responsa by R. Mordecai Judah Loeb ben Naphtali Hertz Winkler (1844-1932). R. Winkler was born in Lepontovic in the vicinity of Nitra. He served as the rabbi of Mad in Transylvania, where he headed a bet midrash. Among his students was R. Mordecai ben Joshua Briszk (18841944), founder and head of the yeshivah at Tasnad. R. Joseph Zevi Duschinsky (18681948) was his son-in-law. The three years R. Duschinsky spent in R. Winklers house were considered by him, due to his father-in-law's fine personality, as being among the main formative influences in his life. R. Winkler wrote important responsa on all parts of the Shulhan Arukh entitled Levushei Mordecai, by which name he is often reffered to.
