Hasidic homilies, many unpublished by the Rebbe of Jasow, R. Jacob Landau (1834–1894). R. Jacob Landau (1834–1894) was raised by his father R. Abraham Landau of Tsekhanov ("Czechanower "; 1789–1875), hasidic zaddik of Poland. He married the daughter of R. Aaron of Biala, who supported him for many years. R. Jacob, like his elder brother, was a disciple of R. Menahem Mendel of Kotsk and after his passing, R. Isaac Meir of Gur. In 1891, when his father passed on he became a disciple of his brother, 27 years his senior, R. Zev of Strikov. Fulfilling his love for Erez Israel, he first travelled there in 1890 with the intent of living there the rest of his life, unfortunately, health forced him to return home to Poland. In 1893 he made his second attempt, it likewise was short lived due to failing health. He returned to Warsaw for treatment of his illness, and passed on there in 1896. Apart from small portions of his homilies printed in his father's work, Hesed leAvrohom, his works remain in manuscript. Among them, commentary to the Torah, novellae on Talmud, a pamphlet Emet leYakov on the 14 attributes of trust in the Rosh on Tractate Gittin, and notes on the Sefer ha-Arukh.
