Detailed
Description
Lessing (1729-81) was a German writer and Enlightenment philosopher. He advocated for the toleration of the Jews and he had a close relationship with Moses Mendelssohn. “One of Lessing's earliest literary ventures was Die Juden (1749), a one-act comedy in which for the first time a Jew was presented on the German stage in a reasonably objective manner”.
