Detailed
Description
On the halakhot and blessings for Berit Milah by R. Shabbatei ben Jacob Isaac Lipschitz (1845-1929). The title page describes it as explaining all the halakhot of milah (circumcision) in a concise manner, “to see (sic) in the gardens, and to gather lilies” (cf. Song of Songs 6:2) from the works of the rishonim (earlier sages) and precious pearls from the ahronim (later sages). To instruct the children of Judah and Israel in the Torah and to be occupied in this holy service. Also included are numerous reasons for many customs, selected by R. Lipschitz. It adds that this work was published previously in 1894, but is now republished with much supplemental material from the author and published by his son, R. Samuel Judah Lipschitz, and grandson, Mordecai Lipschitz. There are approbations from R. Isaac Schelkish, R. Joseph Meir Weiss, R. Shalom Mordecai Ha-Kohen Schawron, R. Sussman Sofer, and R. Moses Grenwald, followed by the author’s introduction, a responsa from R. Nathan Nata Segal Landau, printed here so as not to leave the page blank, and a table of contents.. The latter enumerates the thirteen chapters of the book covering all aspects of milah, beginning with whom is obligated with the mitzvah and concluding with the meal after the performance f the mitzvah and related customs. The text is in rabbinic type, primarily in a single column with extensive annotations.
