Dedication by Author on title verso.
Halakhic novellae on hilkhot shehitah by R. Shalom Mesas, Grand Rabbi and head of the rabbinic tribunal of Casablanca, and Sephardi Tahor. The title page, with a reddish frame and bluish text describes Mizrah Shemesh the first fruits if R. Mesas’s labors, when his sun began to shine. It is his novel explanations and reasons on hilkhot issur ve-heter, on the Shulhan Arukh. R. Mesas was preoccupied with it “from sunrise to sunset (mizrah Shemesh)” (cf. Psalms 113:3), with great personal sacrifice, searching the “sack” of the rishonim and ahronim, lodging in the valley of halakhah. The title page is followed by a full page photograph of R. Mesas, approbations, a versified introduction in which each stanza concludes with shalom, R. Mesas’s introduction, and then the text in two columns in rabbinic letters. Mizrah Shemesh is a comprehensive work on hilkhot shehitah.
