Paragraph 1    Full title: Not und Hoffnung: Gedichtsammlung für jüdische Schulen.

A collection of German poetry by Jewish authors for Jewish schools.

The compilers of this collection of poetry were Joseph Feiner (1863-1938), Rektor in Hamburg, Elias Gut (1872-1942 ), a teacher from Frankfurt am Main and principal at a Jewish teachers' seminary and Theodor Rothschild (1876-1944). Rothschild was an author and a pedagogue who was particularly known for his work as director of the Jewish orphanage ”Wilhelmspflege” in Esslingen, where he accompanied these children through the period of National Socialism. Rothschild was deported to Theresienstadt in 1942. He died there in 1944 from a lung infection and malnutrition. Throughout his lifetime, memories of his native village were very important to Theodor Rothschild. He produced a lasting monument for the country´s Jewry, as well as for Buttenhausen itself, in the form of reading material he published for religious education lessons, some of which he even composed himself.
