Homily written and delivered by R. Jeremiah b. Benjamin Adolph Loew (1811-1874) Rabbi of Satoralja-Ujhely. He was born in Kolin, Bohemia. An erudite Talmudic scholar he authored several works and responded to inquires from all over the world. His works were published posthumously, the multi-volume Divrei Jeremiah (Mukachevo, 1875) is a well though out commentary to the Rambam. Several other works in homiletics and Talmud bear the same title. In 1852, he was elected to be chief Rabbi of Satoralja-Ujhely where he served till his passing. It was during his time that the congregation was divided, as the Hasidim formed a separate congregation and left the mother congregation. R. Loew kept up a Yeshiva which attracted and produced many great scholars and rabbis.
