Detailed
Description
To show the gentiles the importance of the Talmud to them in the fields of such issues as monetary transactions with interest, etc. The title page states that it is addressed to all how respect the honor of the Torah and its people to love peace. For everyone to see honor of the oral law. The title page has the verse “Her ways are ways of pleasantness, and all her paths are peace” (Proverbs 3:17). Darkhei Shalom begins with a letter to an unnamed prominent rabbi. It ahs been suggested that the rabbi is R. Aaron Samuel Tamares (1869–1931) who initially was an adherent of political Zionism but, after the Fourth Zionist Congress in 1900 returned disillusioned with Zionism, especially its political aspects. He was unable to find his place in the Mizrahi movement, which he considered essentially no different from political Zionism and began to denounce nationalism, and to preach pacifism. Darkhei Shalom is made up of thirteen chapters, each with multiple topics. The subject mater includes the concept of Torah for its own sake, learning for its own sake brings to practice and knowing the sciences (nature) brings one to an inner service of the Lord; the reasons for Jews being involved in usury; all peoples drink from the Torah concerning mitzvoth between people; the perspective of the Talmud on interest; halakhic perspectives on interest by decisors over time; how the Torah is explained and interpreted; and much much more.
