Only edition of these varied discourses by R. Jacob Mordecai ben Solomon Netter as well as some discourses from his father, R. Solomon Netter. There is a half-title page followed by a full title page. The former states that Sheluyim min ha-Yam (“brought quails from the sea”) (Numbers 11:31) is new novellae and also old from those who already were. The full title page states that Sheluyim min ha-Yam “was divided, and became four rivers” (Genesis 2:10) and they are five (lit. armed). It then enumerates the five parts of the book. The first, petah ha-hatzar, explains the essence and purpose of the book; the second, hatzar ha-bayyit, deals with humility, that a person should improve himself in the corridor so that he can enter into the hall; third, ve-amudei ha-hatzar, addresses the purpose of humility is good deeds, fourth, beit ha-halutz, deals with the kadmonim (previous ones); and last, sha’ar ha-shirim, includes song said by love of companions. There is an introduction form the author and then the text. Beit ha-halutz has two title pages and states that it is the Middot of earlier days from the six great kingdoms that were in the time of the temple as the six main contemporary kingdoms. Last is sha’ar ha-shirim, also with its own title page, which begins with verse the initial letters of each line forming an acrostic.
