R. Jacob ben Solomon Sukri’s (d. 1980) father, R. Solomon Sukri, was av bet din in Damascus. His mother was a the daughter of R. Jacob Antebi, whom R. Sukri was named after. R. Sukri was hard pressed to support his large family but yet was occupied day and night in Torah. When the opportunity presented itself R. Sukri moved to Jerusalem. His financial burdens forced him to travel seeking assistance, going to Egypt and India. In addition to Vayikra Ya’akov R. Sukri wrote Yoru Mishpat le-Ya;akov (Calcutta, 1882), analogies and parables.
