Paragraph 1    An extremely rare first edition of a Ladino prayer book. The work was unknown to bibliographers until A. Marx revealed it in Zeitschrift fur Hebraische Bibliographie 9 (1905). Translated by R. Abraham Assa, the single most important contributor to the Ladino literature of all times.

Detailed
Description
Liturgy for the entire year translated to Ladino. Includes an unknown custom regarding Avot. Traditionally Avot has been recited on the Sabbath afternoon prior to the Minha service. This prayerbook calls for the recitation, limited to several introductory and final sentences (provided with Ladino translation), during the Musaf service.

Ladino religious literature had its origins in pre-expulsion Spain, it was only in exile, however, that it really developed. The major original translations include the Book of Psalms (Constantinople, 1540); the Pentateuch (Constantinople, 1547); the Prophets (Salonika, 1572); and a complete translation of the Bible by R. Abraham ben Isaac Assa (Constantinople, 1739–45), which became the most popular text among the Sephardi communities of the East.
