On the halkhot of nikkur (porging) by R. David ben Gershom Deutsch. Tzina David has an ornate title page with a depiction of Moses with the tablets of the law and Aaron wearing the attire of the High Priest, a common motif for Hebrew title pages. Here, however, the depiction of Moses is relatively unusual, for his demeanor appears wrathful and his arm, which is holding a rod, is raised as if to shatter the two tablets. This title page, or a likeness of it, was used in Fuerth on the title page of a folio edition of tractate Gittin (1740) as well as several works in the 1690s. It does not appear in Habermann’s Title Pages of Hebrew Books. The title page states Tzina David is on hilkhot nikkur (that is the removal of the fat portions (helev), attached to the stomach and intestines of an animal, sacrificed on the altar in biblical and Temple times, which are forbidden for consumption. They must be removed by porging (nikkur) the organs to which they are attached. Lev. 3:17; 7:23–25). It further informs that the author has taken these laws from several sources and now explains them in detail with a commentary entitled Makom David. It is dated with a chronogram from, “you may eat meat, to your heart’s desire” (Deuteronomy 12:20). The verso of the title page has a double lined Magen David with the words Tzina David in the middle and between the lines basic rules of nikkur. There is an introduction from R. Deutsch, a second introduction in Vaybertaytsh and approbations from eight prominent rabbis, including R. Jonathan Eybeschuetz (1690/95–1764), this rare as R. Eybeschuetz only infrequently gave approbations. Next is a brief synopsis of the laws of nikkur and then the text. The Shulhan Arukh is in the center and R. Jonathan Eybeschuetz around it. At the bottom of the page is Din Nikkur be-Loshon Ashkenaz (Yiddish). At the end are errata and the colophon.
