Detailed
Description
American Judaica. Illustrated Yiddish version of the Guidebook for new immigrants, here entitled Vegvayzer fun di Ferynigte Shtaaten far dem Idishen Immigrant. This standard work, adapted for new Jewish immigrants, is attractively printed by the Connecticut Daughters of the American Revolution. The title page has the seal of the DAR and facing it is a photograph of President Taft with his signature. The text is accompanied by a portrait of George Washington, several photographs, maps, and tables. Among the photos are one of the white house, children folding the American flag, boys learning to say the pledge of allegiance and by a pool, young women learning domestic chores and how to type, a chemistry class (for men), and the Statue of Liberty. There is a map comparing the sizes of European Russia and the United States, the former superimposed over the latter. At the end of the volume is a foldout map of the United States. Among the tables and listings is one of the states, giving state capitals, abbreviations, populations and size. There are also examples of forms to be used when purchasing money orders for Russia. The text, which attempts to encompass the requirements of the new immigrant to this country, concludes with a table of contents and blank pages for notes. There are several library stamps (Tel Aviv), several over stamped removed. Otherwise in excellent condition.
