Hasidic and Kabbalistic commentary to the Pentateuch.

R. Moses Eliakum Beriah b. Israel Hopstein (d. 1828) was the son of and successor to the Maggid of Kozienice. His father, R. Israel, was successively a pupil of R. Baer of Meseritz, R. Samuel Shmelka Hurwitz, and R. Elimelech of Lezaysk. R. Moses, followed in his footsteps and became the leader of the Hasidim, and won numbers over to Hasidism. His renown as a wonder-worker was so great that even Christians believed in his supernatural powers and resorted to him for aid; while Jews were attracted to him from far and near.
