Detailed
Description
Novellae on tractates in Kodashim in two parts by R. Hanokh Zevi ha-Kohen. The title page states that it is hiddushim on the Talmud, Perush Rashi, and Tosafot בגפ"ת on the Order Kodashim and the novellae of the Rambam, based on discourses that he delivered in the community of Bendin (Bedzin), where he served as av bet din. R. Hanokh’s name is given on the title page as R. Hanokh Zevi ha-Kohen but many bibliographic sources record his surname as Levin. The title of Ye-Kahen Paer is from “[as a bridegroom] decks himself with a garland (ye-kahen paer)” Isaiah 61:10). The volume title page is followed by a half title page for part one and introductions from the author and his sons. In his introduction, R. Hanokh relates that when he showed a portion of this book to his brother-in-law, the Admor from Ger, the latter gave him a blessing for his work, which he prays will be fulfilled. He has entitled the book יכהן פאר because the letters are an allusion to the Admor R. Judah Arye, the son of R. Abraham Mordecai, the son of the Hiddushei ha-Rim. It also alludes to his father’s name, R. Menahem Jacob ha-Kohen ben R. Jehiel Ephraim Fischel ben Hanokh Henokh ha-Kohen of Alexander. Next is the testament צוואה of R. Hanokh Zevi ha-Kohen. The text follows, on tractates in Order Kodashim. This part concludes with an elegy R. Hanokh delivered for R. Israel Meir ha-Kohen (Hafez Hayyim). Part two has its own half-title page and is discourses delivered in Bendin on Shabbat Teshuvah and Shabbat ha-Gadol. The text is in two columns in rabbinic type, excepting headers and initial words.
