This listing is an independent item not part of any collection
pp., 127:94 mm., ink on paper, light age staining, neat Italian block letters, 13 lines per page, bound in contemporary half leather and marbled paper boards.
Manuscript containing, as stated on the title page, the order of prayers to be customarily recited by a “Wife of [One’s] Youth” (Isaiah 54:6) on the night of Rosh HaShanah prior to davening ma’ariv. Within the volume are piyyutim (liturgical poetry) to be recited both nights of Rosh HaShanah. These prayers, based on Psalms, are followed by piyyutim to be stated prior to and after blowing the shofar, and in the latter prayers there are two small depictions of a face blowing shofar. Next is a pizmon to be recited on the night of Simhat Torah. The text is written in clear attractive square letters, some vocalized, and the Tetragrammaton is given in a manuscript form of two yodin followed by an inverted gimmel. There are also several penciled annotations in a more modern hand. The first is dated Sabbioneta 1864 followed by àð÷åðà. On the following page are additional pencil entries in Spanish dated 23 April 1849. Two pages have drawings of leaves. At the end are further pencil entries, also dated 1864. Although the volume is undated it certainly predates the penciled dates. This is a beautiful and moving piece.
